Your active dream as your screen saver

Jun 28, 2008 4:11 AM by Discussion: Animated Wallpapers
Here is a little something I wrote this week.

If you wished you could have a dream as your screen saver, then DreamScreenSaver is your answer!  It takes you currently active dream and makes it your screen saver!

Download it FREE here.

The one limitation is that you can't using Vista's native "On resume, display logon screen". You have to disable it and re-enable it in the DreamScreenSaver configuration window.

Cheers!

I've been slow on making dreams these past few months because I've been working on a rewrite of my Dream Manager software.  Am I allowed to plug it here when its ready for sale?

Seems the internal player is not working for me because I have two monitors with different aspec ratios.

Below is a screen shot of fit to screen with cropping and as you can see both images distort the circle.  Even the 16:10 monitor is distorted even though this dream in 16:10.

All the modes produce the squished view on the second monitor. Here are links to the other modes and how they are distorted.

I'm currently uploading my new master dream called "Red Giant".  I hope everyone enjoys it!  I'll be making matching login and wallpaper skins soon.

Easy way to preview my dreams

May 5, 2008 2:54 AM by Discussion: Animated Wallpapers
I've been messing around with MS Silverlight and have uploaded a version of my gallery using it. It's a lot easier to preview my dreams using this site. It requires you to install Microsoft's Silverlight, and runs on either FF and IE.

Check it out here: http://wcgallery.mooo.com/

Let me know what you think!

Thanks,
Master Baron

I was just looking at the top rated wallpapers to see what color/style was most popular (I think blue wins) and noticed that there isn't a single 10 rated wallpaper in 2004?!?!  What happened in 2004?  Was it seeing John Kerry's face all year suck the creativity out of everyone?

I guess they could have all been updated into another year.  All of them? Really?

Slow rotation and higher resolution

I've finally finished reworking the Good Night Earth dream to make it spin half the speed it was, and also increase the resolution to improve detail.

I hope everyone is pleased! Get it here

If you purchased it, the update is free. Just go here: http://stardock.com/support/ and request your serial numbers & download information be resent to you.  Download links have expirations to them to help prevent piracy.  This will generate a new link for you to use.  (Thanks Zoomba)

So I have released a few dreams now that are 140MB.  What I have found is that I can pack high resolution and slow moving dreams into this file size.  The latest example is Utopia Prime which is 1792x1120 and 4 minutes long.  It seems to me that this is a very acceptable tradeoff of lower CPU usage with higher memory consumption.   I realize that not all people have 1920x1200 wide-screens, the fastest CPU, plenty of memory and high speed broadband, but the dreams I'm currently making have so much detail that I would hate to take any of it away for the people who do.

To the point; Good Night Earth currently weighs in 111MB and is 1152x720 with a 2 minute run time.  I'm currently re-rendering it so that I can try and make it 4 minutes and 1792x1120.  However, this means increasing the file size to 140MB.  For those of you who own Good Night Earth, would you mind the 30MB increase to get a higher resolution and slower spinning speed?  I wouldn't think so, but wanted to make sure I'm not off base here and everyone is hating the fact that my dreams have gotten so large and don't want any changes to Good Night Earth.

Does anyone have any comments or opinions on the subject?

Is there a link to get to this forum from the main wincustomize forum?

Lately I've been getting more and more requests for the video file of my dream instead of the dream file.  When I first started, I had no problem with this, but now, I have many more dreams, and thus, have more requests.  Sure, I can take the time to upload all my dreams as videos to some file sharing site, but then once I send someone the link, it potentially becomes available to the whole world for download without giving me credit.  As I invest more time into this hobby of mine, I feel I need to protect my work somewhat and that is what the dream format is trying to do.  So, I'm sorry to say that I'm no longer going to provide my dreams as video files.

I have to say, that I'm surprised this hasn't already been done for wallpapers.  Seems like it would be a great addition to have several resolutions of wallpapers in one file along with author info instead of downloading a zip file.
